SATYRICON ‘bringing clarity’ to rumors

November 26th, 2009

SatyriconNorwegian black metallers Satyricon have issued the following update:

“Let’s try and bring some clarity to the rumours that have been circulating lately.

“Although [Satyricon's latest album] “The Age Of Nero” is now a year old, the project is still very much alive to us as we’ve been working it more or less non-stop for almost three years.

“The last 12 months since release has been spent relentlessly touring and the fortunate success of the album has taken us to India, Australia, Japan, twice to America, across Europe and around Scandinavia and now we head out on the ‘Finale In Black’ tour, which will mark the end of the colossal “The Age Of Nero” project. Once we have done that, we feel the time is right to take a break. A break where we can rest, get some perspective, work on other musical projects and non-musical projects and allow ourselves to figure out Satyricon’s next move. We have some ideas on what we want to do next and one of them is to open a new musical chapter.

“It has never been in this bands nature to rest on our laurels and we won’t be doing that either. When the time is right, we will start working on exploring new musical territory and only the future can tell what that will turn into. Taking on challenges like that is something Satyricon never has been afraid of. On the contrary, it is what has made the band grow.

“We tried to perfect everything Satyricon has learnt and experienced musically for the last decade on “The Age Of Nero” and we feel that we reached the goal we set out to achieve. It is time to pave way for something new. No, we won’t return to something old. Forget it! All we know is that regardless of what we end up doing, it will still sound unmistakably like Satyricon.

“We won’t tour in the foreseeable future unless it is something so unique that it could be considered an historical event, but we will do one or two select festivals here and there whenever we feel like it. When we return, some of the people surrounding us today might be gone and some might still be with us. We don’t know when, we don’t know how, but we do know that Satyricon is still very much alive and this break is something we know we need to do to keep it that way. Until then, see you at ‘Finale In Black’!”

Satyricon vocalist Sigurd “Satyr” Wongraven told Terrorizer.com that the band’s upcoming concert in London, England (on December 20) will mark the beginning of a new phase in the group’s evolution. “From then on, there are going to be a lot of changes in the Satyricon camp,” he said. “After we take a long touring break and come back a couple of years later, certain people may not be with us any longer. Although we won’t be doing anything overly dramatic, we’ll be trying quite a few different things, which I think is going to be really good for Satyricon. The reason we’re doing that is so we can continue to develop our sound. At the moment we are still enjoying what we do, but if that continues any longer it’ll undoubtedly stagnate, so we need to ensure that doesn’t happen. And moving in different musical directions is definitely a good way to go about it.”

“As an artist, there are so many new things I’d like to do,” Satyr added. “And one of them is to work on some songwriting for Satyricon, though from an entirely different angle. For example, we may chose to go for a similar tone, but use a different set of instruments in the next record. Maybe there are also other recording techniques, which could add a different element to our work and open up fresh musical territory. Our last three releases all follow a certain style and pattern, and we want to create a record that’s radically different from the others. Though the foundation of Satyricon’s sound — my songwriting and Frost’s signature drumming — will always remain unchanged.”

DEVILDRIVER BBC Session to air on Monday November 23

November 22nd, 2009

DevilDriverSanta Barbara, California metallers DevilDriver recently recorded several songs at the legendary BBC Maida Vale Studios in London, England for an exclusive BBC Radio 1 “Rock Show” session which will air Monday night (November 23) as part of Daniel Carter’s program. Vocalist Dez Fafara will also be on the phone talking about recording the session and life in general

and http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006wq4s

The show will be available for streaming for seven days after the initial broadcast at this location.

According to a new online post by DevilDriver bassist Jon Miller, the Santa Barbara, California-based metallers have six songs “in the bag” for the group’s forthcoming album, which they “are looking to record sooner than later.” He added, “We want to go faster and heavier on this one to answer any question on a ‘direction’ that we may be undertaking.”

DevilDriver drummer John Boecklin elaborated further on the status of the songwriting sessions for the band’s next CD. Writing on the group’s official MySpace blog, Boecklin stated, “On our last record, I would say we stretched as far as we could outside of what we had done in the past, trying new and slower songs with vocal melody like ‘It’s In The Cards’ or the rock like feel of songs like ‘Back With A Vengeance’ and ‘Teach Me To Whisper’. For our latest effort, we feel like musically going for the throat, so to speak.

“Are we gonna make a death metal album? No! We always have a heavy emphasis on groove and hook. That will not change. We just feel we have a certain anger edge about us and the songs we are writing compared to our last one. It will not be rushed and if you are a fan, you will not be let down!!”

DEVILDRIVER to ‘go faster and heavier’ on next album

November 10th, 2009

KISS video interview online

November 9th, 2009

The members of KISS were interviewed by Altitude and Sprint TV prior to their October 31, 2009 performance at the 11th annual Voodoo Experience music festival in New Orleans. Watch the chat below.

More than 150 acts played on eight stages in three separate areas — named Le Ritual, Le Flambeau and Le Carnival — around the city.

Other major acts on the Voodoo Experience bill included Jane’s Addiction, Wolfmother, Eagles Of Death Metal, Meat Puppets and Down.

Guitarist/vocalist Paul Stanley says that he feels no shame in KISS being lumped in with other vintage, or classic rock acts — in fact, the band is thrilled with the fact that they’re now spanning there different generations with their music and bombastic live shows.

Stanley, who’s out on the road with KISS in support of their first album in a decade, Sonic Boom, told Metal Hammer magazine, “I’m proud to be in the category of classic rock bands — what’s better than the word ‘classic?’ Are you kidding? If you want to call Led Zeppelin a classic rock band and then you want to call us a classic rock band, I’m not fighting. If I’m going to be lumped in with anybody, let me be lumped in with my heroes. That doesn’t preclude you from being current. It means that you have a solid history and a foundation, which most bands will never achieve because they won’t survive that long.”

RATT frontman discusses upcoming album

November 9th, 2009

Artisan News Service recently conducted an interview with Stephen Pearcy of Californian rockers RATT. The interview can be viewed at this location.

RATT has set “Infestation” as the title of its new album, out in March 2010 via Loud & Proud/Roadrunner Records. The band’s first studio CD in 10 years was produced by Michael “Elvis” Baskette, whose credits include Chevelle, Incubus, Alter Bridge, to name a few. The effort — which has been described by Pearcy as a cross between 1984′s “Out Of The Cellar” and 1985′s “Invasion Of Your Privacy” — marked the first time the group had stepped outside of Los Angeles to track a new CD in 20-plus years.

Video footage of RATT guitarist Warren DeMartini laying down a solo on the band’s new song ‘Lost Weekend’ at a studio in Virginia Beach, Virginia in June 2009 can be viewed below.

RATT have enjoyed a rich, impressive and certainly long-lasting legacy through the years, having made their mark in the 1980s with 5 consecutive multi-platinum albums, including “Out of the Cellar”, “Invasion of Your Privacy” and “Dancing Undercover”. With 1984’s mega-platinum debut “Out of the Cellar” celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, the band is looking forward to starting a new chapter with new music to complement the impressive legacy they have established over two-plus decades. Ratt will embark on a world tour in 2010.
