On the back of promoting their highly acclaimed “Linoleum EP” MCD released via InsideOutMusic on November 16th, 2009, Swedish Pain of Salvation have been confirmed to join the national Swedish competition for the Eurovision song contest, Melodifestivalen. Pain of Salvation’s frontman Daniel Gildenlöw comments the event as follows: “For those who don’t know what Melodifestivalen is, it is the biggest thing in the Swedish music industry. A huge machinery built to single out the Swedish contender for the Eurovision Song Contest. Out of thousands and thousands of sent in songs, 30 are selected by a jury to participate in this national contest, viewed by half the population when it’s on TV. It’s a big thing, to say the least!”
Pain of Salvation have just completed a video clip for the title track of their current release, “Linoleum”, directed by Owe Lingwall of Village Road Film (The Rasmus, Amorphis, etc.). A teaser for the powerful clip can be viewed at this location. The full clip for “Linoleum” will be launched on January 20th, so watch out for that one!
After promoting the release of the “Linoleum EP” MCD with shows in Russia and their first ever visit to Australia supporting Dream Theater, Pain of Salvation also played a string of selected headline shows in Central Europe at the end of 2009 and will next be traveling to Greece to perform two shows at the end of January as follows:

SHINING (NO) confirmed for Roadburn 2010
As you all may have noticed, the line-up for the Roadburn Festival 2010 has been shaping up nicely. In addition to the bands previously announced, they are very happy to announce Jex Thoth, Shining, Eagle Twin, Night Horse, Los Natas, Monkey 3, Ancestors and more.
Norway’s Shining is indisputably one of the most hard-hitting and progressive bands from that kingdom. They are constantly pushing musical boundaries, whether avant-garde metal, jazz, prog-rock or psychedelia. The band excels at melding these disparate musical elements into a unique genre of their own, called Black-Jazz. Over the top and sophisticated at the very same time, Shining (NO) create energetically original and thrilling music.
The new Shining album “Blackjazz” will be released on January 25 on Indie Recordings early 2010.
A band we also like very much at the Petting Zoo is Ancestors. There’s nothing common about the music of this Los Angeles quintet. To peg or try to pigeon hole the art they create would be missing the point. Ancestors weave an unorthodox mixture of sonic textures, down-tempo riffs and rhythms, accented with well-crafted melodies and at times full-throttle assaults. Their music is a journey through the past into the future; a signpost for a quickly emerging force of musical power and creativity.
Dixie Witch and House of Broken Promises have been confirmed for Roadburn’s special Afterburner event on Sunday, April 18, at the 013 venue in Tilburg, Holland. More bands will follow.

MACHINE HEAD announce The Black Procession Tour

Oakland, CA - Since the release of “The Blackening” in March of 2007, Machine Head has toured incessantly, laying more than 300 shows in support of the Grammy-nominated album. And while this 3 year-long album cycle has seen Machine Head share U.S. and European stages as main support to Metallica, Slipknot, Slayer, Marilyn Manson and Megadeth, headline the Jägermeister stage on the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival, and headline the legendary Wacken festival to over 85,000 people, it hasn’t seen them on a full-fledged headline tour, playing full-length sets. Until now.
Starting January 23rd, 2010, “The Black Procession” will tear through Europe and into the U.K., alongside brethren in heaviness Hatebreed, Bleeding Through and All Shall Perish, for what promises to be nightafter-night of unbridled power! Machine Head singer/guitarist Robb Flynn says, “After 3 years of touring we are beyond stoked to finish this tour cycle on our own terms, with our show, our stage, our production, our control, and we’re lucky enough to bring three of our favorite bands along with us, it’s going to be fucking massive!!!”
Machine Head have also decided to do things a little differently for the fans this time around and will be playing 2 or more intimate shows in 3,000-4,000-seat venues instead of the massive arena shows fans have grown accustomed to. Adds bassist Adam Duce, “Having done arenas now since The Black Crusade as well as the Metallica and Slipknot tours, we thought it would be killer to give the fans a chance to have a couple different setlists, and mix things up a bit. It’s gonna be fun for us to see which gems we dig up!!!”
Hatebreed vocalist Jamey Jasta says, “Machine Head and Hatebreed on the same stages across Europe?!?! This will be the heaviest and most pit-inducing tour of 2010. Make no mistake, if you miss this show, I feel sorry for you!” Brandan Schieppati, vocalist for Bleeding Through says, “Machine Head is a band we have all looked up to for years. We consider it an honor to share the stage with our friends in Machine Head. This will be amazing!” And Eddie Shall Perish from heavy up-and-comers All Shall Perish adds “This tour will be legendary! We are beyond honored to be a part of this epic event, these bands have all been huge influences to our music and our devotion to this scene. Machine Head are hometown heroes and Robb Flynn has been championing our new album all over the world and we couldn’t be more thankful to Machine Head for wanting us to be on this insane tour! We also can’t wait to destroy Europe with all our friends in Hatebreed and Bleeding Through! Fuck yeah, this tour kills!!!”
The Black Procession will mark the end of the touring cycle for “The Blackening”, making it the ABSOLUTE last chance you’ll have to catch Machine Head live before they hunker down to write their next album! So grab your tickets early, because you KNOW you don’t want to miss this show!

Special one-off show WARDRUNA at Incubate festival
Norwegian folk band Wardruna will be playing a special one-off performance at the Incubate festival in Tilburg, The Netherlands on Saturday September 19. The ambient folk project of black metal musicians Einar ‘Kvitrafn’ Selvik and Gaahl will perform at an amphitheater in the middle of a forest.
Wardruna received raving reviews on their 2009 debut Gap Var Ginnunga. Bandleader Kvitrafn (Jotunspor, ex-Gorgoroth) threw his metal roots overboard to make an album full of dark ambient folk. The album is a musical travel trough the history of Norwegian mythology and paganism, made with traditional Norwegian instruments as the goat horn and tagelharp. Sounds of trees, stones, water and fire can also be heard on the album.
Shows of Wardruna are rare, but always memorable. Previously, the band played on a Viking ship and in a chapel on a mountain. The surroundings gives the music a stronger mystical feel.
The show of Wardruna in the amphitheatre in the woods of the town of Oisterwijk is the only Dutch show of the band. The concert will be introduced with a lecture on the history of paganism and esotericism in Europe.
The show is a cooperation between the Incubate festival and Schatten van Brabant.
Incubate is the annual celebration of independent culture in Tilburg, The Netherlands. It is a festival exhibiting a diverse view on indie culture as a whole, including music, contemporary dance, film and visual arts. It brings more than 200 cutting edge artists in an intimate context to an international audience. Black metal next to free jazz. Street art next to academic dance.
Incubate takes place from the 13th until 20th of September in the city of Tilburg in the Netherlands. From bar to amphitheatre. From music venue to museum.
For more information visit the website www.incubate.org.
Media about Incubate:
“After barely surviving a night of ‘Heavy Metal Bowling’, more out there than attack ships off the shoulder of Orion, it’s time to hit downtown Tilburg for an impossibly diverse bill. The Incubate festival operates like a transparent Temporary Autonomous Zone, tucked within venues around the centre, like a web of wonder hiding behind the ordinary local weekend hassle.” (Terrorizer, 2008)
“In one year’s time, the festival in Tilburg has grown to one of the most fun happenings for adventurous music lovers and scouts for alternative talents. (…) Tilburg becomes the main meeting point for anyone who wants to be hip in 2010.” (OOR, 2008)
“The festival looks overwhelming. 120 groups in 2 days, plus films and art programmes? My God!” (Tony Herrington, Editor-in-Chief of The Wire magazine, 2007)
“And with damn near every last square inch of the city littered with preamps and patch cords, that can only mean one thing: a killer lineup.” (Pitchfork, 2008)
“Incubate already is the best festival of the year.” (LiveXS, 2007)
