INSIDIOUS DISEASE in studio with Russ Russell

March 18th, 2009

Marc Grewe, one of the fine folks that started Petting Zoo Propaganda with us in 1998, and also vocalist for Germany’s former death metal outfit Morgoth, is back with a great new band – Insidious Disease.

You might wanna call it an all star death metal band, as the band was formed late 2004 by Silenoz (Dimmu Borgir) and Jardar (Old Man’s Child), and includes drummer extraordinaire Tony Laureano (Angelcorpse, Nile). Later joined by Shane Embury (Napalm Death, Brujeria, Lock Up), to complete the pounding pulse and rhythm section. The search for a fitting vocalist wasn’t easy as the band wanted to have a distinct main voice that differed quite a bit from the typical low guttural stuff, and after auditioning a few candidates, it was clear that non other than Marc Grewe would handle vocal duties, giving it the icing on the cake with his more soaring maniacal approach stylistically vocal wise.

The band is currently in the studio mixing the songs with producer Russ Russell on the as of yet untitled first record. Thematically speaking this is gonna be, unsurprisingly and literally, one hell of a ride down the darkest of alleys, accompanied by a brutal, violent and hate fuelled sound! The preview track ‘Boundless’ can be heard on their myspace or on youtube.

Insidious Disease

The idea for this band came about several years ago, as Silenoz and Jardar kept talking about joining forces again. They both quit the death metal outfit Malefic back in ’92 to go on forming Dimmu Borgir and Old Man’s Child respectively. The urge to play brutal music together was always present through the years, but things didn’t really get down to business until late 2004 when Tony showed his interest in doing the drums for the band and things slowly started to happen. It didn’t take too long before a number of songs were completed and the first few rehearsals took place.

Without painting themselves into a corner and thus having their music receive unwanted categorisation it is however no secret that influence wise, the music of Insidious Disease touches upon the old glory days of dark and sinister death metal, but yet at the same time still very much kept up to date with some modern twists and turns without becoming too technical, polished and melodic. The attitude and heavy groove aspect of the songs and the way they are structured can be considered as the main basics and the foundation on which the idea of this band is built upon, in other words, a true escape for the ones who appreciate audible devastating and a hammering -in your face-type of heaviness glazed with a gush of blood! The love for darkness, the morbid and the sick, the perverted and the twisted, all things insane that can be found within the human mind and soul is the core influence and it shall manifest itself to make you vomit your guts out!
