New RAVEN album “Walk Through Fire” on March 26

March 2nd, 2010

The undisputed kings of Athletic Rock are back! Harder and stronger than ever. With their new album “Walk Through Fire” they show all non believers what real metal is about. Screaming guitar riffs, pumping bass lines, exploding drums and a voice which is not from this earth!

It is now 28 years ago since their first album “Rock Until You Drop” was released and during this time Raven definitely influenced a lot of bands. Who played their first tour at the east coast in the USA as support to Raven? Metallica. Who played their first gigs ever as support to Raven? Anthrax. The list goes on and on. Ask Mille of Kreator or Tom Angelripper of Sodom. Both will say that Raven was a big influence on their musical careers.

The new album will be released through Steamhammer/SPV in Europe on March 26. Raven’s line up is still John Gallagher (bass, vocals), Mark Gallagher (guitars) and Joe Hasselvander (drums). This summer the band will play on festivals like the Sweden Rock Festival in Sweden, Hellfest in France and Headbangers Open Air in Germany.

New MOLLY HATCHET album in May 2010

January 26th, 2010

Molly Hatchet signed a worldwide deal with SPV/Steamhammer again. Their new studio album “Justice” will be released on May 31st, 2010.

The motto of the new Molly Hatchet release, “Justice”, was coined by guitarist Bobby Ingram years ago. “Southern rock ain’t no fake or hype!” was his comment on the basic philosophy of the band from Jacksonville/Florida. This basic honesty, which runs like a thread through the band’s career, remains one of Molly Hatchet’s outstanding features to this day. In 2010, the group’s six musicians play every single note with lifeblood and conviction, giving their countless fans hand-made rock music that operates totally without computers or digital samples.

LEMMY documentary premiere at SXSW 2010

January 12th, 2010

LEMMY, the eagerly-anticipated documentary film delving into the private and public lives of rock icon and Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister, will make its world premiere this March at the 2010 South by Southwest (SXSW) Film
Festival in Austin, Texas.

For nearly three years, directors/producers Greg Olliver and Wes Orshoski have captured the life and career of the pioneering singer/bassist. LEMMY follows Kilmister from his Hollywood home to the hockey arenas of Scandinavia and Russia, and gives fans more access than ever before to his life. The film features appearances by such high-profile Kilmister friends/peers as Metallica, Dave Grohl, Ozzy Osbourne, Slash, Billy Bob Thornton and pro wrestler Triple H.

LEMMY, for which Olliver & Orshoski are seeking distribution, will make its formal premiere during the SXSW Film Festival, which runs Friday March 12-16, 2010, in Austin. The film will also screen during the South by Southwest Music Festival, to be held March 17-20. Locations for all screenings are TBD. Details on screenings and promotional events in Austin, will be posted in coming weeks on the movie’s official website, www.lemmymovie.com.

Of the film’s impending release, Kilmister quipped: “Amazing! See Lemmy breathe in and breathe out!! See him move his fingers independently!! All singing and dancing!! Give generously!!!”

Hailed as a godfather of heavy metal, 64-year-old Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister has established himself as the living embodiment of rock and roll over the past four decades. After stints with popular Mersey beat band The Rockin’ Vickers and influential psychedelic rockers Hawkwind, and even a brief time spent as a member of Jimi Hendrix’s road crew, Lemmy formed Motörhead in 1975.

Going on to record such influential metal classics as “Overkill,” “Ace of Spades” and “Bomber,” the Grammy Award winning Motörhead and Kilmister’s fusion of punk and metal registered a major influence on such bands as Metallica, Guns N’ Roses and Nirvana.

Says Foo Fighters leader and ex-Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, “If anyone deserves to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, it’s Lemmy. Give me a fuckin’ break!”

SPV entering new dimensions with a new team

November 11th, 2009

spvlogosmallFollowing its insolvency on May 27, 2009, SPV GmbH, Hannover, is realigning itself with a new repertoire strategy, building on the reputation which it has gained in over 25 years in the recorded music market with artists such as Whitesnake, Motörhead, Xavier Naidoo, Simply Red and Alice Cooper.

“SPV is one of the most renowned addresses for rock and metal both nationally and internationally,” says insolvency administrator and lawyer Manuel Sack. In the last few weeks following the signing of a partnership venture agreement with Sony Music Entertainment, under which Sony will be exploiting SPV rights initially for large acts and some selected parts of the catalog in the GSA territories, efforts have been focused on securing SPV’s future with its remaining attractive assets. “SPV’s reputation with record buyers has not suffered and the company will continue to play a significant role in the market as an independent.”

With its own organizational structure, SPV GmbH will be actively engaging in the global exploitation of its existing catalog, which currently comprises more than 1,500 catalog-numbers. A team of experienced employees will be concentrating on the relevant core elements of the repertoire.

Under the aegis of the insolvency administrator Manuel Sack, Frank Uhle will be responsible for the operational management of SPV GmbH. He attaches particular importance to ensuring that export business, which has also been completely restructured, remains one of SPV’s mainstays. Uhle is pinning great hopes to BVM, the company’s new partner in Bremen, explaining that this will additionally enhance the quality of services and underpin the future service guarantee in the inventory and logistics segment. In this way, it will be possible to execute worldwide business professionally.

Explains Uhle: “We still have enough high-quality releases to remain at the top of the hotly contested market for independents. There have been no changes in the quality of our services for artists, management and labels. On the contrary, now that we have streamlined and restructured our operations, we can react even more swiftly and flexibly to the needs of the market and our artists as well as the individuality of each of our products. This can be clearly seen in the new talents which we have in the pipeline and will be releasing over the next few months. We have learned our lesson and are convinced that our team will soon have in SPV a force to be reckoned with which is capable of navigating the treacherous waters of our industry. At the same time, we will not be deterred by rough seas.”
